There are a few places and images that are synonymous with Galway city. The stone walls, the NUI Galway clock tower, the craic, buskers on Shop Street, and for me it also is The g Hotel. The stunning Philip Treacy designed hotel is a 6-minute drive from Eyre Square and a 9-minute drive from the National University of Ireland, Galway.
When I was a student and would get the bus from Dublin to Galway on Sunday evenings (Hey GoBus!) I always knew I was close to being back at college when I saw the big silver G and pink flags waving outside. Even now, so many years later, and living and working in Galway, I still get a thrill when I pass the pink flags.
Recently, for my cousin Michelle’s Hen party, I booked us all into gigi’s for dinner. I have eaten in the lounges before so I knew we would be in for a treat in the restaurant. The hotel is so chic, and plush. It is a little taste of luxury just going inside. Michelle didn’t know where we were going so when we pulled up outside she was surprised! And the surprises didn’t end there. The brilliant staff in the g, had personalised menus made for us. They couldn’t have been more accommodating when I asked.
Between us all we had all the menu options, (I had the beef) and to say the beef was flawless is not enough. It melted. I am actually getting hungry thinking about it! The bubbles flowed all night, and they brought out Michelle a personalised dessert. They made me look like a great bridesmaid!
The lounges are fantastic if you want a light bite or a drink, my favourite is the pink ladies lounge. Nothing quite a decadent as having a glass of champagne with the girls in the stunning surroundings.
On good advice and opinion, (I have yet to try it out, but I will!!) Staying at the g is a little piece of heaven. Apparently the is spa is divine. (remember the good opinion of earlier!!) It is over two floors and the bedrooms overlook Lough Atalia! Stunning!
The hotel is the place to be on ladies day and with Race week just gone it was buzzing, but any time of year is a perfect opportunity to head west and stay or dine in the g.
As if my recommendation wasn’t enough, it was awarded Best Hotel Restaurant in Galway – Irish Restaurant Awards 2016, so you don’t have to take my word for it! Also they have a FANTASTIC deal with the Eye Cinema which is next door. You can get a cinema and meal deal for such good value. Two courses and a cinema ticket is €30. Luxury for everyones budget!
You can find out more, see their special offers and make bookings on http://www.theghotel.ie/
Let me know if you head to the g! I am already jealous!
